Members of the RSC Histories Ensemble will perform at Westminster Abbey from 20th April to 11th May at 7pm when the Abbey joins forces with the Royal Shakespeare Company to tell the story of six kings of England, all linked with Westminster Abbey, as they battled for crown and kingdom in the turbulent times of medieval England.
Actors from the award-winning RSC Histories Ensemble will perform excerpts from the History Plays and music from the period will be sung by Lay Vicars of The Westminster Abbey Choir.
Audiences will be seated in the historic setting of the coronation ‘theatre’- the place in Westminster Abbey where kings and queens of England have been crowned since 1066 and just metres away from the tombs of four kings: Edward III (13/4), Richard II (20/4), Henry V (4/5 Sold Out) and Henry VII (11/5 Sold Out) who will be featured in these special evenings of performance, music and interpretation along with Henry IV (27/4) and Richard III (11/5 Sold Out).
A little birdie tells me that Geoffrey Streatfeild will be reprising his Henry V and that Nick Asbury will also be taking part in one of the evenings. Who will join me in the returns queue?
Tickets are £15.00 or £8.00 (students/schools). Sadly, some performances are already sold out but there are still a limited number of tickets available. Look on http://www.westminster-abbey.org/ for more information.
I am sure this will be great event.
I saw “Romeo and Juliet” and “Anthony and Cleopatra”, at Durham Cathedral quite a while ago now and they were marvellous.
The idea of ‘The Histories’ being performed in this manner
I am sure will be a huge success. The atmosphere alone will
bring a magically feeling to each of the events.
Brilliant news! Hurrah!
