I went to a talk on the remodelling of seats in the Theatre Royal Newcastle which was held a while ago. The designer was keen to introduce the type of seat which was present at the time of the opening of such theatres when individuals such as Matcham played an important role in the structure of theatres and how their entertainment was presented to the public.
So the Theatre Royal should have stylish elegant armchair like structures. The theatre will be closed for productions, later this year so that the work can begin on the improvement in the seating. For those who have brass plates with names, these will be put on the new seats.
I noticed that with the new RSC theatre one can name a brick.(and/or a seat).
