Our most recent Q and A session was with Robin Soans; after thoughtful exploration of his diplomat’s interpretation of Polonius – who was, he explained, doing a balancing job between the old king and the new, struggling to keep his place in the court, he moved on to Corin, which came out of his Northamptonshire child hood in a rural but now changed village. The room became totally silent as he then took us on his journey to verbatim theatre with Max Stafford Clark, and from privilege to underclass on council estates where he talked to residents about their lives. His account of Talking to Terrorists was challengingly spine chilling, at the same time amusing; and we felt we had been in the presence of creative empathy of the very highest order.
These sessions bring out remarkable depths of our actors’ lives, and are gone once finished – there is no record. All the more reason to come and plan your tickets to take in Friday afternoons and Saturday mornings. Michael Pennington next on October 26th. Be there.
