Once again a hugely popular Q & A at Holy Trinity Parish Hall. Nathaniel Parker delighted his audience with an fascinating tale of how he had reluctantly agreed to consider taking on the role of Henry VIII until he became beguiled by Hilary Mantel’s books and Mike Poulton’s adaptation. It was fascinating to gain an insight into the process by which an actor develops a character that an audience find credible and then develop the role and take chances that will delight and surprise. There was much ribald humour on the subject of the king’s costumes including the inconvenience of the codpiece!
Nat had the audience in fits of laughter on such diverse topics as playing Gordon Brown, the Inspector Lynley Mysteries and the Cheltenham Gold Cup. He interspersed the humour with thoughtful points about how poor actors are at judging their own performance at any one time.
