What an exuberant, joyous entertainment! It is as though one has stumbled into a wonderful party where everyone wants to include you in the fun. Selina Cadell’s production allows her actors (over half of whom are making their RSC debut this season) to engage the audience and they all seemed to be enjoying themselves immensely.
The lighthearted playfulness of the play is enhanced by Rosalind Ebbutt’s costume design which gives a humour out contemporary twist to the costumes whilst keeping to the spirit of the period in which the play is set.
Instrumental music is provided by a most gifted quintet whilst the cast’s ability in both the solo and ensemble singing is truly impressive.
Selina Cadell’s celebration of life with all of its knavery, occasional nobility and uncontainable energy and humour is a must see.
